Student visa document checklist for Nepali students
A complete checklist of identity, academic, financial and supporting documents Nepali students need for a student visa, with tips to avoid common mistakes.
Prepare four groups of documents - identity and admission, academic and English, financial, and your own statements - and make sure names, dates and amounts match across all of them.
Identity and admission documents
Every destination starts with the same foundation: proof of who you are and proof that a real education provider has accepted you. Get these right first, because every other document is checked against them.
- Passport valid for your whole course, plus a few months. Your name, date of birth and passport number must match every other document exactly.
- Admission document from your university or college. The name depends on the country: a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) for Australia, a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) for the UK, a letter of acceptance for Canada, or a Form I-20 for the USA.
- Recent passport-size photos that follow the size and background rules of the embassy or visa centre.
- Citizenship certificate, and a certified English translation where it is requested.
A different spelling of your name between your passport, SLC/SEE certificate and bank documents is one of the most common reasons for delays. Fix it with a name-verification letter from your ward office before you apply.
Academic and English-language documents
Your academic file should tell a clear, continuous story from school to your planned course.
- Character certificates from your last school or college, if your provider or visa office asks for them.
- Equivalence letter from the relevant Nepali authority when your provider needs one, such as for some Indian or foreign qualifications.
- Work-experience letters on company letterhead, with your role, dates and salary, if you have a study gap or your course relates to your job.
Financial documents
This is where most applications succeed or fail. The visa officer wants to see that the money is genuinely available to you, and where it came from.
- Bank balance certificate and a bank statement that shows the history of the account, not just a large recent deposit.
- Education loan documents: the sanction letter and, where applicable, disbursement details from a bank or financial institution.
- Sponsor documents: an affidavit of support and a relationship verification certificate from the ward office when parents or relatives pay.
- Income sources: salary letters and tax records, business registration with PAN and tax clearance, rental agreements, or an agricultural income certificate from the municipality.
- Tuition receipts for any fees or deposits you have already paid.

Statements, forms and extras
- Statement of purpose or, for Australia, your answers to the Genuine Student questions.
- CV that matches the dates in your academic and work documents.
- Health and insurance: medical examinations or a TB test where the country requires one, and Overseas Student Health Cover for Australia.

- Translations and notarisation for any document not in English.
Consistency beats volume. Twenty well-matched documents persuade more than fifty that contradict each other on dates, names or amounts.
Questions students ask
Do all countries need the same documents?
No. The core set is similar, but each country has its own forms, financial rules and health checks. Always follow the official checklist for your visa subclass or route.
Should documents be originals or copies?
Online applications usually need clear colour scans of originals. Keep the originals safe, because they may be requested at an interview or on arrival.
How early should I start collecting documents?
Start three to four months before you plan to apply. Ward-office letters, bank statements and translations often take longer than students expect.
