A granted parent visa (subclass 103) allows a parent to stay, work and study in Australia permanently. It is important to understand the conditions and the long wait before you apply.

Canada's parent and grandparent permanent residence intake is currently paused for new applications, and the UK's Adult Dependent Relative route is limited to people who need long-term personal care, so they are not listed here.

Who can sponsor a parent?

For Australia's subclass 103, the sponsor is usually a child who is a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. New Zealand's Parent Resident Visa has its own sponsor income and residence rules.

What is the balance-of-family test?

Australia requires at least half of the parent's children to live lawfully and permanently in Australia, or more of them to live there than in any other single country. We check how it applies to your family.

How long does a parent visa take?
